When: Time to Buy: July\January and Holidays

Why:  Furniture industry advertizing is intense and promotions are never ending.  This selling strategy is fundamental to managing a quick turn item with low inventory costs.  As such, the furniture industry selling strategy often caters to the seasonal and life events.  For example, buying a home, outdoor entertainment, weddings, births, holidays, college, etc.

As such, the key to getting a good deal with furniture purchases rests in the ability to plan and anticipate purchases in advance.   As always, selection and price are always a critical factors to consider.

  • Event Based –If you are looking for a sale, but a good selection to meet your taste and décor, plan purchases around notable seasonal and life events.  Below are some good examples.
    • Recliners – Will often be on sale May and June to cater to Mothers Day and Fathers Day.
    • Living Room Furniture – Sofas and loveseats, and tables are usually promoted throughout the year.  However, look for your best values in living room furniture in the fall while preparing for the holiday entertaining or in the spring when home sales are on the rise.
    • Dining Room Furniture – The much anticipated holiday season will bring sales and promotions on dining rooms and dinettes.
    • Office Furniture – The best deals are often around tax time and back to school.

  • Clearance – New furniture is typically released bi-annually (August and January).  So buy items on clearance when they are out of season.  July is the best time to buy furniture for your home. Living room, dining room and bedroom furniture can be found at great prices.   Inversely, if you are in the market for a patio set, resist the temptation until January or February.

Best Time to buy Appliances

Sales on appliances occur year round.  However, to take advantage of the biggest discounts, you should try to make your purchases during the following.
Holiday weekends—Fourth of July, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Presidents Day—also are good bets for deals.

New Model Release – The new models for large appliances roll out in September and October, so stores will be working to make room by discounting previous models.
